'As fencer Helene Mayer, actor Sophie Shad is all poise, parry and perfection.' - The Advertiser ★★★★
'Sophie Shad as Helene Mayer is totally believable. A vision in white, dressed head to toe in fencing garb, she is an angel with steel wings, blond and blue eyes thrusting her way through her game, personifying the Nazi ideal of a great female sportswoman, except for the fact that her father is Jewish.' - British Theatre Guide ★★★★
'Of course, the two actors, Sophie Shad as Helene and Tessie Orange-Turner as Gretel, are a vital ingredient in fleshing out those characters and bringing Naylor’s play to vital life. Their performances ring with passion and clarity. It is a riveting piece of theatre… Simple and dramatic.. It is a Fringe must-see.’ ★★★★★ Barefoot Review, Samela Harris
'Sophie Shad's portrayal of Helene Mayer is excellent as she encounters equal prejudice while battling with her identity.'
★★★★★ - The Artiscape

'Sophie Shad cuts a defiant, determined figure as Mayer, lithe and fast in her fencing gear and armed with the vital prop of a fencing foil, which she gives every indication of being able to use.' - Jewish Renaissance
